My Artist's Statement
I
have had a desire to create for as long as I can remember.
While still in my pre-teens, I had instructions in paper
mache, porcelain painting and wood working. My early ambition
was to be a mechanical engineer. I served a four year
apprenticeship as a machine tool builder and machinist in
Switzerland where I learned all facets of metal working. That
included precision machining, drafting and machine design,
some blacksmithing, welding and fabricating and graduated with
honors. I immigrated to the USA in 1964 at 21 years of age and
worked most of the time since in the metal trades. During all
that time, I have never lost an appreciation, love and
fascination for the colors, shapes and textures of all of
those medias and their possibilities along the lines of visual
artistic expression.
I
have seriously pursued a career in the metal arts since 1999.
I am a juried artist member of "Lunaria Cooperative Gallery"
in Silverton, OR. Some other of my interests are fly fishing.
I was a licensed white water guide for about ten years. I have
been a fly tier and flyrod builder for over thirty years and
taught these subjects in adult education classes and through
civic organizations.
